A press send is a different economic proposition from ordinary packaging. The quantity is small, the cost per unit is almost irrelevant, and the return is entirely in whether the recipient chooses to show it to an audience.
Optimised for being filmed
Assume the box is opened on camera, because increasingly it is. That changes what matters.
The interior becomes the main surface, since that is what fills the frame once the lid is back. The reveal sequence matters — a tissue layer or a card before the product creates a beat rather than dumping everything at once. And tactile finishes earn their cost here in a way they do not elsewhere, because soft-touch and emboss are things a reviewer describes out loud.

Small runs, and why they are fine
Setup cost dominates at low quantities, so a PR run has a high per-unit price by definition. That is the wrong number to look at. Against a campaign budget, fifty exceptional boxes cost less than almost any other channel and are the only one where the recipient may produce the content for you.
Personalisation without a reprint
Recipients notice a name. Printing fifty different boxes is not practical, but a printed insert card personalised per recipient is — and it lands in exactly the same moment. Digital print handles short variable runs cheaply.
Deadlines are the real constraint
Press sends attach to launch dates that do not move. Standard turnaround is four to six working days from proof approval, and the approval step is where schedules usually slip rather than production. Can we order fewer than fifty?
Fifty is the minimum for a printed run. Below that, a plain box with a printed sleeve is the practical route.
Can each box hold different contents?
Yes, with a tray designed for the largest configuration and unused cavities left empty.
How early should we start?
Three weeks before the send date is comfortable. Under two, tell us at the outset.
