Luxury in packaging is not a material, it is a set of finishing processes applied after printing. Each one is a separate pass on a separate machine, which is why they are quoted individually and why choosing all of them is rarely the right answer.

    What each finish actually does

    • Soft-touch lamination — a velvety film that changes the feel of the box entirely. The most noticeable finish per pound spent, and the one customers comment on without knowing why.
    • Foil stamping — metallic foil pressed under heat with its own die. Genuinely reflective in a way printed metallic ink is not. Priced per impression, so a small logo is far cheaper than a large area.
    • Embossing and debossing — raising or recessing the board itself. Works with no ink at all, which can be the most restrained option available.
    • Spot UV — high gloss on selected areas over a matte base. Effective on a logo, wasted across a whole panel where it just reads as gloss.

Where the money is well spent

Finishes are worth it where the box is part of what the customer is paying for, and where they will keep it: gifting, premium launches, press sends and anything with a high unit price. On a high-volume, low-margin product they add cost the customer will not weigh in the purchase.

If the budget only stretches to one, soft-touch usually delivers the most noticeable difference. Our breakdown of what packaging actually costs covers how finishing sits alongside quantity and print in the total.

    One caveat worth stating

Lamination is a plastic film, and it makes a corrugated box materially harder to recycle. For a brand whose positioning leans on sustainability, that is a real conflict and not a technicality. A water-based varnish gives scuff resistance without the film, at the cost of some of the hand-feel.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can finishes be combined?

Yes — soft-touch with foil is a common pairing. Each is a separate pass, so each adds to the cost.

    Do I need a sample?

For finishing, strongly recommended. Soft-touch and emboss are tactile effects and no screen conveys them.

Is there a minimum for foil?

Foil needs its own die, so it carries a setup cost that makes very short runs disproportionately expensive.

    Hold it before you commit

We will produce a finished sample of your box so the decision is made in the hand rather than on a monitor.

    Key features

How we build luxury mailer boxes.

    Measured from the product

We size the box around what goes inside and add the clearance it needs. That removes void fill you would otherwise buy and dimensional weight you would otherwise pay on every order.

    Colour that behaves

Process CMYK or a Pantone spot match, outside and in. We tell you how a colour will sit on kraft before the run, not after it.

    Board matched to the load

E-flute, B-flute or double wall depending on weight and fragility. We will talk you down a grade as readily as up one.

    Assembles in one motion

One-piece construction with a front-tab lock. No tape, no gun, and seconds rather than minutes at the packing bench.

    Recyclable as standard

Kraft and corrugated go in the curbside bin with water- and soy-based inks. Plastic lamination changes that, and we say so when you ask for it.

    Fifty is a real run

Enough to prove a design before committing to thousands. Pricing steps down at 250, 500 and 1,000 as setup cost spreads.

    Make it yours

    Customization options

Board, print method and finish are three separate decisions, and each one moves the price. We will tell you which are worth paying for on your product and which are not.

    FAQ

    Before you order

Measure the product at its widest point in each direction, not a box you already use. We add the clearance and the board thickness ourselves, so sending an existing box means inheriting whoever sized it last.
Yes. Every quote includes a print-ready dieline and a 3D render at no charge, and you can request a physical sample before production. On a first order we recommend taking the sample — a screen cannot tell you whether a box fits.
Quantity, then print coverage. Setup cost is fixed, so the per-unit figure drops sharply across the first few quantity steps. After that, the number of ink colours moves the price more than the board does.
On white-top board, closely — specify a Pantone reference and we match to it. On kraft the ink sits over brown and shifts warmer, so we tell you how a colour will actually behave before the run rather than after it.
Send photographs within seven days of delivery and we reprint or refund the affected quantity. Custom production is not returnable for change of mind, which is exactly why we insist on proof approval first.
