Not printing is a legitimate decision rather than a compromise, and in several situations it is the better one. This page is about when to make it deliberately.
What you save by leaving it blank
Print carries a fixed setup cost — plates, press calibration, test sheets — that is charged whether you order fifty boxes or five thousand. Remove it and the per-unit price falls, most noticeably at small quantities where that setup was being divided across very few boxes.
Lead time drops too, because the job skips the proofing cycle entirely. If a launch date is close, an unprinted box is often the only way to make it.
Branding without printing the box
A plain box does not have to arrive anonymous. Printed tape, a sticker or a wrap-around band all put your name on the parcel, and all of them are cheap, quick and changeable. A sticker can be redesigned next week; a printed box cannot.
The most flexible version of this is a sleeved mailer — a plain box with a separately printed band, so one stock box carries any number of designs.
The strongest argument: test first
Most first packaging orders get the size slightly wrong. Ordering plain boxes first lets you find that out for the cost of the board alone, before committing artwork and print setup to a dieline you may want to change.

Frequently asked questions
Kraft or white?
Kraft is cheaper and reads as unfussy. White looks cleaner and shows marks more. Neither is stronger.
Can I print later using the same size?
Yes. We keep the dieline on file, so a printed reorder needs only the artwork.
Is there a minimum?
Fifty, the same as printed. Without print setup the small-quantity price is considerably better.

We size the box around what goes inside and add the clearance it needs. That removes void fill you would otherwise buy and dimensional weight you would otherwise pay on every order.
Colour that behaves
