Selling online removes every physical touchpoint except one. There is no shelf, no shop, no one to hand the product over — just a box arriving at a door. Whatever impression the brand makes in the real world, it makes there.
Three jobs at once
An ecommerce mailer has to protect the product, cost little enough not to erode the margin, and still feel like it came from somewhere considered. Those pull against each other, and most packaging decisions are really about where to give ground.
The one place not to give ground is fit. A box sized to the product moves less in transit, needs no filler, and does not attract dimensional-weight charges — so getting the measurements right buys you room in the budget for the parts customers actually notice. Our guide on how to measure a mailer box covers the clearances.
Plan for the return journey
Online retail has returns, and packaging that only works outbound quietly costs money. If a customer has to find their own box to send something back, some of them will not bother — and the ones who do will pack it badly.
A closure that reopens and recloses cleanly, like a tuck top, turns the outbound box into the return box. On a category with meaningful return rates, that is worth more than any print decision.
Where the money goes
Print coverage moves the price more than most people expect, and board grade less. A single strong colour on kraft often looks more assured than a busy four-colour design, and costs a fraction. If the budget is tight, spend it on an inside print — the surface the customer sees at the exact moment the box opens.
Frequently asked questions
What size should I start with?
Whatever fits your best-selling product properly. One well-sized box beats three roughly-sized ones.
How many should I order first?
Enough to prove the design works. Fifty is a genuine run; the per-unit price drops sharply as you step up from there.
Do I need printing on the inside?
You do not need it. It is the cheapest thing on the list that customers consistently remark on.
Start with the measurements
Send the product dimensions and a quantity, and you get itemised pricing, a dieline and a 3D render at no charge.
How we build ecommerce mailer boxes.
Measured from the product
We size the box around what goes inside and add the clearance it needs. That removes void fill you would otherwise buy and dimensional weight you would otherwise pay on every order.
Colour that behaves
Process CMYK or a Pantone spot match, outside and in. We tell you how a colour will sit on kraft before the run, not after it.
Board matched to the load
E-flute, B-flute or double wall depending on weight and fragility. We will talk you down a grade as readily as up one.
Assembles in one motion
One-piece construction with a front-tab lock. No tape, no gun, and seconds rather than minutes at the packing bench.
Recyclable as standard
Kraft and corrugated go in the curbside bin with water- and soy-based inks. Plastic lamination changes that, and we say so when you ask for it.
Fifty is a real run
Enough to prove a design before committing to thousands. Pricing steps down at 250, 500 and 1,000 as setup cost spreads.
Customization options
Board, print method and finish are three separate decisions, and each one moves the price. We will tell you which are worth paying for on your product and which are not.
