Square mailer boxes have equal length and width. The proportion changes how a product presents when the lid opens, and it changes the carrier maths — sometimes in your favour, sometimes not.

  • Equal length and width, depth chosen to suit the product
  • Presents contents centred rather than laid out along a rectangle
  • Useful for candles, ceramics, hampers and gift sets
  • Check dimensional weight before committing to the shape
  • From 50 units in E-flute or B-flute corrugated

Unlike everything else in this range, a square mailer is defined by proportion rather than closure. It uses the same one-piece corrugated construction and the same tab or tuck fastening; what differs is that length and width are equal.

Why the shape changes the unboxing

A rectangular box implies a direction — the eye runs along the long axis and reads the contents as a row. A square opens onto a centred field instead, which suits a single hero object or a symmetrical arrangement.

That makes it a natural fit for candles, ceramics, small hampers and gift sets, where the goal is for the customer to see one composed arrangement rather than a line of items. Boxes for that use often sit in our gift and seasonal range.

    The carrier calculation, honestly

Square is not automatically efficient, and it is worth checking rather than assuming.

For a genuinely square or round product, a square box wastes less space than a rectangle and the volumetric weight drops. For anything elongated, a square box is mostly air, and since carriers bill on whichever is greater — actual or dimensional weight — you would be paying to ship that air on every order.

Our guide to measuring a mailer box covers how to work this out before ordering rather than after the first invoice.

    A note on board yield

Square shapes do not always nest efficiently on a printing sheet. Occasionally a small adjustment to depth brings the yield back up a step and lowers the unit cost noticeably. We check this when quoting and will tell you if it applies.

    Frequently asked questions

Does square cost more than rectangular?

Not inherently. Cost follows surface area and board yield, not proportion.

    What depth should I choose?

Enough for the product plus clearance, plus a few millimetres of headroom so the lid seats without bowing.

Can I have a window in the lid?

Yes. A centred die-cut window suits this shape particularly well.

Check the shape before you commit

Send the product dimensions and we will tell you whether square genuinely helps or quietly costs you on freight.

    Key features

How we build custom square mailer box.

    Measured from the product

We size the box around what goes inside and add the clearance it needs. That removes void fill you would otherwise buy and dimensional weight you would otherwise pay on every order.

    Colour that behaves

Process CMYK or a Pantone spot match, outside and in. We tell you how a colour will sit on kraft before the run, not after it.

    Board matched to the load

E-flute, B-flute or double wall depending on weight and fragility. We will talk you down a grade as readily as up one.

    Assembles in one motion

One-piece construction with a front-tab lock. No tape, no gun, and seconds rather than minutes at the packing bench.

    Recyclable as standard

Kraft and corrugated go in the curbside bin with water- and soy-based inks. Plastic lamination changes that, and we say so when you ask for it.

    Fifty is a real run

Enough to prove a design before committing to thousands. Pricing steps down at 250, 500 and 1,000 as setup cost spreads.

    Make it yours

    Customization options

Board, print method and finish are three separate decisions, and each one moves the price. We will tell you which are worth paying for on your product and which are not.

    FAQ

    Before you order

Measure the product at its widest point in each direction, not a box you already use. We add the clearance and the board thickness ourselves, so sending an existing box means inheriting whoever sized it last.
Yes. Every quote includes a print-ready dieline and a 3D render at no charge, and you can request a physical sample before production. On a first order we recommend taking the sample — a screen cannot tell you whether a box fits.
Quantity, then print coverage. Setup cost is fixed, so the per-unit figure drops sharply across the first few quantity steps. After that, the number of ink colours moves the price more than the board does.
On white-top board, closely — specify a Pantone reference and we match to it. On kraft the ink sits over brown and shifts warmer, so we tell you how a colour will actually behave before the run rather than after it.
Send photographs within seven days of delivery and we reprint or refund the affected quantity. Custom production is not returnable for change of mind, which is exactly why we insist on proof approval first.
