Everything else in this range is a box. This is not. A padded mailer is a flexible envelope with a cushioning layer bonded inside, and it solves a different problem: protecting something flat and reasonably robust while adding almost no weight or bulk.
Paper padding versus plastic bubble
Traditional padded envelopes are lined with plastic bubble film bonded to a paper outer. That combination is effectively unrecyclable in ordinary collection — the two materials cannot be separated at a sorting facility, so the whole envelope is usually rejected.
Paper padding, either honeycomb-cut kraft or shredded paper, goes in the paper stream intact. For a brand making any environmental claim, that difference is the reason to choose this format.
What it is genuinely good for
Flat, semi-rigid, not especially fragile: apparel, printed matter, accessories, small textiles, anything soft that mainly needs protection from abrasion and light knocks. It is far lighter than an equivalent box, which shows directly on carrier weight, and it takes up almost no storage space.
Where a box is the right answer instead
A padded mailer cushions; it does not hold a shape. Anything rigid, breakable or with corners that can be crushed needs the structural walls of a box. Anything with real mass needs board underneath it, not paper around it.
The clearest test is whether the item would mind being bent. If it would, use a corrugated mailer instead — or, for flat printed goods specifically, a book mailer which holds rigid while staying slim.
Frequently asked questions
Is paper padding as protective as bubble?
For abrasion and light impact, comparable. For sharp impact on a rigid item, no — but that item should be in a box regardless.
Can it be printed?
Yes, on the outer kraft face. One or two colours works best on this surface.
Is it water resistant?
No more than any other paper product. For weather-exposed delivery, add an inner sleeve.
